Tune Up, Not Down!

Did you know that when you tune a string (on guitar/bass/piano etc) that you should always end by tightening rather than loosening – tune up to the correct pitch, not down.

When you lower the pitch by releasing tension, there may be slack in the gears of the tuning machines which can cause the the string to slip below pitch.

By going further down and approaching the target note from below, there we be force applied to the gears giving it less potential to slip once you’re in tune.
